Rome to Florence!

IMG_0398.JPG

It's the last day in Rome… but man oh man. It's the one place you have to go to… but also a place that's a little dry in the adventures department. (Unless you have Unlimited Access… ) So… I’ll be brief and we can head onto the next city… Florence!

It's the Vatican.

The Pope’s Abode.

The Pope’s Abode.

See? You knew. The center of one of the largest religions on Earth and come on… it's got HISTORY. Parts of it are basically a museum - which is pretty amazing - but that's not what I’m talking about.

You know what I mean. And I won’t be going into it.

So… here's the Papal Pie Server and the Papal Hammer.

ONWARDS… to Florence!

Trains are for ADVENTURE!

Trains are for ADVENTURE!

Oohh Florence. An absolutely gorgeous city. Very different from Rome but man… does it still have that grandeur and history. Just in a different way. We opted to only do two days here and since we were really just staying in the city proper - I say it was a good length of time. Of course if there was unlimited time… Yeaaaah… stay longer. You must choose… though. So there you go. First thing we did was see our main man… David. Michelangelo really was crazy talented. This guy is 17 feet tall! I was not prepared. Situated in the Accademia Gallery of Florence… get ready for the lines. There’s a good amount at this place but clearly David is its pride and joy.

We had arrived in the afternoon when we got to Florence and the first day was short… but I would be remiss not to point out the city’s main feature. The Duomo. It's a show stopper. It did help spark the Italian Renaissance during its construction… so you got that. When one thinks of Florence though… this really is what comes to mind.

Let me talk a bit about just walking around at night in this city. This is a very dense city. Alleys for days. You never know what you will find if you travel down that alley or this one. The fun and sometimes frustrating part about Europe is that businesses don’t really have to have set hours. There's been many a time where I would show up to a place after finding them on the Web and they would be closed. A small note saying something like they are on vacation or what have you. That freedom… I was a little gobsmacked when I was experiencing this multiple times. What do you mean… you just aren’t open? How? How dare you! It's almost like as an American we have a higher oath to working than to… living life? Weird. I know. This trip as I might’ve mentioned previously… was a real eye opener. Did you know there’s more to life than working? It’s a crazy notion… I know.

As we were walking around looking for a good restaurant we came across this place that was just everything we wanted… actual Italian Pasta… in Italy! Small and cozy. Table wine is excellent wine and is insanely cheap. There’s not much that is better. Hoot boy though. Also… here’s a fun little graffiti that I saw on the way back to our Airbnb. I do love me some graffiti… gives you some insight to the real soul of the modern city.

We fly past the Palazzo Vecchio and quickly take a peek at the Ponte Vecchio. Traveling sometimes can wipe you out but Adrenaline and Wonder are major cure-alls for that. Still though… it's good to know your limits. Especially when you will be waking up early to take advantage of every moment in this City out of a Dream.

Ciao.
