Prost in Portland!
The dog and pony show just kept going on.
Beer flows and beer goes.
Summer fades away and yet… the Sun remains.
These are the thoughts that I have as I sit on the deck of one of Portland’s premier, German Biergartens. Prost. Situated on Mississippi Avenue - Prost has nearly everything! The inside is fairly cozy but completely kitted out to be as German as possible. Outside though… outside is where it’s at. Multiple outdoor porches and a plethora of picnic tables - the name Biergarten really starts to take shape. They even have a separate outdoor bar that is in their Food Pod area. Here you can get coffee, cocktails and of course… beer. This bar is not limited to German beer types though. Right now they are playing host to a Fresh Hop Beer Pop-Up Fest. Showcasing different breweries on different days - this Fest aims to last until the start of October and promises to have at least 10 Fresh Hop beers on at all times.

Another beautiful thing about this location is that they have a WHOLE Food Pod setup going on… right next to their main German pub! It's pretty cool. Over eight Food Pods with varying cuisine styles really sets this place apart as a major destination. Even for those that aren’t that interested in Beer.
Its a Food Pod!
Quick word for those not in Portland and may be unfamiliar with Food Pods…
A Food Pod is similar to a Food Truck… but it is usually a permanent fixture but can also be a trailer or even just a parked Food Truck. Also… I think the plural version of Food Pod… is just Food Pod. So it's not like a gaggle of Food Pods… it's just Food Pod or Food Carts.
Back to it.
This place really does shine because of the quality and selection of the beers that they sling. On many occasions that I’ve visited here I’ve been fortunate enough to have had some German beers that I’ve never had before. Even when I was in Germany. This place has great selection and for a West Coast bar that is pretty far away from Germany… exceptional.
Inside Prost!
This place is also near the end of Mississippi proper so it gets just a ton of traffic from people walking and doing crawls. The entire street is just one hopping place after another. You have jazz clubs, speakeasies, concert halls and all the bars and pubs. I’m not even talking about the stores and boutiques that exist there as well.
The Patio!
Overall. This place is a fun place with an excellent patio setup where you can grab a pint or a stein and enjoy the ambiance. Who knows who you will talk to? Will you go for the Stein or will you go for that half liter? And once you are done… you can mosey on down the street and possibly keep the party going. It all depends on what you are looking for. Isn’t that a sign of a great area? I say: Yes.
Prost is having their Oktoberfest this weekend and you should most definitely check them out. Be warned though… its going to be packed and know to get there early if you want in. It’s first come… first serve.
